On Pelee Island (Ontario, Canada), an at-risk species of Ambystoma salamander can be found in swamps and wetlands. However, the swamps and wetlands they use for breeding have been declining over time, as agriculture and development increase. To combat this loss, community members and NGOs have created new ponds to support the salamanders. We assessed the environmental characteristics of man-made and naturally occurring ponds, to determine if the salamanders were using the man-made ponds. The results of this work is linked above.
